We are a group of Karen women, who came together to create fiber art, based on our folk traditions, in Portland Oregon. We are excited to share our products and culture with you.
Karen is pronounced "Kah - Ren." We are originally from the Thailand - Burma border region in Southeast Asia and are from one of the many ethnic groups in Burma.
We are refugees who have been resettled in the United States. The conflict in Burma is one of the longest - running civil wars in the world. Portland is now our home and home to many Karen refugee families. We come with hope and visions of a promising future for ourselves and others. We weave in the US as we did when we grew up. We are learning to share our culture through our products and every time we weave, we give ourselves the chance to carry our culture with us. |
